ILLUMiBRATE: TO THE MOON & BACK
A Light & Color Festival
ILLUMiBRATE is our yearly celebration of all things light and color, featuring interactive exhibits and performances throughout the night. This year we will highlight creative installations by our three Resident Creatives for the inaugural round of our Resident Creative Program.
From the PIONEER Room to the SKIP Building, from the five studios to the lobby, every space will light up to take you on a journey…to the moon and back.
Andrew Nemr:
Mentored by Gregory Hines, Andrew Nemr is an international artist, teacher, and speaker. His work has crossed music, dance, theatre, film, and the visual arts, exploring tap dance as a vehicle for storytelling and community building. Described as “A masterly tapper” by the New York Times, Andrew is recorded on the Grammy nominated recording Itsbynne Reel by Dave Eggar and is the founder of the Nemr Institute for Spiritual Formation and Creativity. Andrew’s journey is the topic of the award-winning documentary short film Identity: The Andrew Nemr Story, and he writes regularly for The Notes with Andrew Nemr. He is most fond of his ability to wiggle his ears.
Casey Scalf:
Casey Scalf is a multi-disciplinary artist focusing on the nexus of light, architecture, tech, and nature. Ever curious about the world, unrelentingly optimistic, and always down for a good puzzle, Casey will be taking these pursuits to the next level in the SKIP building at JUMP for ILLUMiBRATE 2025. Check out the next wave of his studio, Sensebellum, as he and his team create the ultimate expression of geodesic living, interactive art, the natural world, and our modern abilities, all living in harmony.
Sam Johnson & The Colossal Collective:
The Colossal Collective is a group of Boise-based artists, engineers, builders, and performers who collaborate around a singular mission: to create magic and spread a sense of childlike wonder through their larger-than-life puppets.
Since 2012, the Colossal Collective has been providing unforgettable and fantastical experiences in the Boise area. Their creations make regular appearances at the Illumibrate, Treefort Music Festival, and the Idaho Botanical Gardens, as well as traveling to many other art festivals throughout the western US. They’re also frequently spotted roaming the streets of downtown Boise.
The group was founded by local artist Sam Johnson. Sam grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and studied fine art at Whitman College, and business administration at Boise State University. He is a firm believer that art should be experienced and interacted with, not just observed and consumed.
