Sisters Rebecca and Megan joined us in studio the day before their show at Treefort Music Hall! Now in their 30’s, they are on tour with a new album and Grammy win. They’re opening for Sheryl Crow at a sold-out show this summer at Red Rocks!
They played for a packed house at Treefort Music Hall, where Rebecca announced she is pregnant! This was their 5th date of this tour.
While growing up, they listened to all kinds of music their parents shared. They used to play music with their older sister. When they were 3 or 4, their parents started them on classical violin. Rebecca says mandolin is her main instrument, she also plays guitar. Megan is a master on pedal steel guitar. Rebecca showed me her new Martin acoustic, and said that the weathered front was printed on. I asked if I could touch it. It was smooth as could be, but looked as weathered as something Willie Nelson might have played for 40 years!
Rebecca said her biggest musical inspiration was Ozzy Osborne. She says that all traditional music shares a thread, and that their lives changed once they had gone to a bluegrass festival.
As for their name, the girls say it is familial. “Our Great, Great, Great, Great Grandpa was cousin’s with Edgar Allen Poe, so we’re pretty much famous!
Much love to Idaho Kombucha for bringing beverages. We got the girls some Healthy lunch to go from Pita Pit.
The nonprofit the band loves to support is called Propellor, Music’s Mental Health fund.
The songs they did for us were such a great intimate way to hear the band. I also know how much they were holding back, because they will blow your mind tomorrow at Treefort Music Hall. Make sure to see this show, this band is blowing up!
