Downtown Boise was bustling with many holiday events, and we were so excited to have The Record Exchange host the ONLY local performance of Cassandra Lewis! The weary-eyed folks at The Record Exchange had been at it since 7 am for the Record Store Day Black Friday Event. Some people waited in line all night for a chance to get some rare vinyl. It was great to see so many friendly faces, happy to come in out of the cold and share hugs with friends.
It was so great to see Cassandra again! It was a session that started and ended with a great hug from her. I told her I loved her boots, she grinned and said “Target!”
We get to hear a lot of different artists in this line of work. It is not often that a voice will stand out in the way that Cassandra’s does. It’s unique and powerful, and her songs and stories were very intimate.
Cassandra says she knows that a lot of people are having a really hard time right now. I looked around and saw this song getting people pretty emotional.
She is a talented powerhouse, and every time we get to spent time with her, we can’t wait until it happens again. Make sure to get her album, “Lost in a Dream.”
Cassandra spoke about “Wicked,” and ended by doing an acapella version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” She went off the stage and through the crowd, connecting with people as they sang along. There was something bittersweet about the final notes of “why, oh why can’t I?” as I pondered the troubled time we might be heading into, mixed with the bond we all had of sharing this experience together tonight. These performances are a treasure.
I felt a bit sad knowing this might be our last session of the year, although I know without a doubt we will be busier just around the corner. Thanks to Tim Johnstone and The Record Exchange for putting this in-store event together.
Please join Melissa Tuesday at 8 am for an EPIC NEW CONCERT ANNOUNCEMENT!
I hope you enjoy the holiday weekend, and there’s a LOT of stuff going around, so stay safe!
