BOISE BICYCLE PROJECT HOLIDAY BIKE GIVEAWAY – DEC. 14TH
December 14 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
The Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway is a winter tradition that Boise Bicycle Project (BBP) has held since 2007. Every year more than 500 bikes are fixed up, “dreamified”, and given to kids in need in December! This year the Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway will be happening on December 14th.
The process starts with the Boise Bicycle Project’s referral partners (local nonprofits, charities, after school programs, and government organizations). These referral partners work with families to identify kids that need bicycles. These kids then get an opportunity to draw a picture of what their “dream bike” would be and tell a story about it. BBP collects these dream bike drawings and, at the same time, collects kids bikes from the community, fixes them up to run smoothly, and then customizes each bike to match a dream bike drawing!
This year, on December 14th, over 500 kids and their families will show up to get warm clothes, warm drinks, a warm meal, a bike lock, helmet, and their dream bike! In the spirit of the giving season, it’s one of the most impactful & feel-good community events happening in Boise.
Boise Bicycle Project leans on the community to make the Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway possible year after year and encourages people to get involved in three key ways:
1. The first is to donate gently used kids bikes (preferably during the Holiday Kids Bike Drive on October 26th) to Boise Bicycle Project in October and November leading up to the event.
2. The second is to donate time or money. Donate time by volunteering before or during the event or donate directly to Boise Bicycle Project to help cover the cost of the event.
3. The third is to adopt a dream bike! Similar to the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program, you can sponsor a “dream bike” that will financially cover the cost of building it. This is one of the most exciting ways to be involved because you can make a child’s dream bike come to life!
