With the Boise Depot a star of the Boise viewscape, it’s easy to overlook Platt Gardens. That’s the name for the landscaped hillside and ponds in front of the Depot. Named for Howard Platt, once the general manager of the Short Line Railroad. The gardens date back to 1927.
Take a walking tour and bring a camera.
As you navigate the paths, and be aware they can be steep and not always level, the koi will follow you around. Get closer to the water and they pop up hoping for snacks.
There are two small waterfall areas and a lot of botanical interests. Then, there’s this “cave.”
A volcanic rock monument that kiddos imagine has mammoth tusks in it. Or maybe they’re stalactites. It is possible to crawl inside, too.
Climb up on the memorial bench and get this view.
The plaque is on the bench.
