You may have heard me disparaging the Instant Pot over the past year, which I realize is the most-favored countertop appliance in many homes.
Personally, I’ve never used the Instant Pot. My husband uses it and it emits the most stanky odors. I call those emissions the “Instant Pot farts.” The recipe experiments have not been anything I would want to eat. But this new kitchen appliance, the air fryer, well, I am in love.
I probably wouldn’t have purchased one, but after a series of events involving a now-defunct sous vide machine, we ended up with one. It was bigger than I expected. It has racks and a basket. I describe it as a toaster-convection oven.
It makes perfect grilled cheese sandwiches with less butter than fried in a pan. All the edges get toasty and the cheese oozes out for a little bit of browning.
French fries? Toss steak fries in a tiny bit of peanut oil and they will have the crispy edges with a creamy interior, just like at Red Robin.
Getting to eat hot fries is such a treat, since we’ve only had them to-go since March of 2020 and that’s meant soggy fries.
My husband has perfected tater tots. Look at these beauties.
We do a couple of chicken breasts brushed with olive oil and coated with seasoning. Again. Perfect and easy. More experiments on the way, and I appreciate recipe tips.
Oh, and get an air fryer if you don’t have one.
